Alteration Pricing

Sometimes having a dress redesigned can be a fun and cost-effective method for your wedding.

It can also be a very sentimental part as well!

I have redesigned many, many wedding gowns.

Give me a call today (301-401-1475) to see if this is an option for you.

Below are a list of common dress alteration and tailoring services. Please note that these are MINIMUM PRICES, and in most cases your estimate will be higher than the prices below. Items that will increase the pricing include layer count, linings, construction style, beading, lace, material type and the need for added material. An accurate estimate will given at the time of your FREE initial private consultation.
I operate on an appointment only basis and try to work around the schedules of my busy brides.

Monday - Sunday, I also take evening appointments. It is my goal to be as accessible as possible to each and every bride as well as her family.

Working with over 1,000 clients per year and 35 years experience this has giving me a unique opportunity to see designers from pretty much everywhere in the world. There are few tailors or seamstresses that have worked with a wide variety of wedding dress designers, and from the large number of bridal stores that I have been given the opportunity see.

In order to ensure you have your dress on time for your wedding day, I prefer to start the process of dress alteration with an initial fitting 4-6 weeks before your wedding day.

If time is more limited, don’t hesitate to contact me. Alterations can still be possible.

Don’t wait until a month before your wedding just because you are working on improving your figure. We understand that this is typical for brides, and so even if we begin working on dress alterations much earlier, we have a final fitting close to the wedding. While some adjustments will be made later, the hem and bustle will not change, so the sooner we can start work, the better.

Preparing for Your First Wedding Dress Alteration Session

For your first fitting, be sure that you have your gown and the shoes you intend to wear on your wedding day. Having your wedding shoes is important because they impact how we’ll make alterations to your hem and bustle.

The first fitting will involve the pinning of your dress and plenty of conversation about all the preparations for your wedding. It’s a chance to enjoy your dress and imagine what it will look like on you at the ceremony.

This is also a chance for you to share with us details about your wedding; we always love to hear everyone’s story of how they met along with how the planning is going. At this fitting we are here to answer any and all questions you have. This is when you see exactly how the alteration process will work, and what we can do to raise that seemingly tricky hem, or how we can build up strapless dresses. Normally the first fitting runs about an hour, but we never put a time limit on how long you can stay. This is also a great time to try on veils. We offer a wide variety of veils from classic and regal to dramatic and romantic.

In most cases, we do need brides to come in for a second fitting especially if we are doing more extensive alterations and modifications to the gown. But in most cases, we only need to see you one other time after this initial fitting and that is two weeks before your wedding. At this point the gown will be altered to fit you.

At this final fitting we do any needed tweaks based on how your body has changed or if you decide to add or take away certain details. The only element missing is the pressing of the gown. The dress won’t be pressed until the day before you pick it up.

How do my prices compare?

With me, you will receive a great value for the money you pay.

I do not try to beat everybody in price, but I am competitively priced with dress alterations, and the many clients I have served over 35 years would agree that there is more than price that should be considered when choosing your seamstress for this special occassion.

Also, please do not expect an exact price quote over the phone or via email.

Be very wary of the seamstress or tailor that gives you an exact price (cost) for alterations as it will inevitably change once through the door.

A few tips for alterations:

  • Regardless of the time left before your wedding, call me to see how I can best help you!
  • It is best to have shoes at your first fitting and ALL right undergarments.
  • Make sure you trust the person that will be working on your dress.
  • Shop around and have fun! You don't have to use the bridal store or the person they recommend. It is your dress and do what feels right!
